It’s taken me a few months to process everything, and I think I’m now able to actually share this publicly, on my business account. This whole project has been a huge part of my life, so I can’t imagine not posting about it. I’m going to take you on a journey of this project and provide artwork for each of the songs on “In Memoriam. ”Just over a year ago, my friend and I decided to start to undertake a big project - which started with the release of “Egomaniac” on June 11th, 2021.
It was an album that had the working title of “Great Minds Don’t Think.” This title started as an inside joke of whenever we’d do something stupid at the same time - which happened often - especially when we were recording in the studio. On my personal instagram account, the live stream where we came up with this title is still posted.
Our 1 year hiatus wasn’t planned, but it wasn’t unexpected. The pandemic had gotten worse, and we both just got super busy.
We were planning on taking all of our old recordings and song concepts and re-analyze and re-record those that we deemed worthy.
A few months ago, we would have been finishing up and releasing our next single, “Starlight.”
When we released “Egomaniac,” I never would have thought I would be writing this post just over a year later.
This album has taken a turn, and is now titled “In Memoriam.” It consists of most of our songs that we’ve written, including drafts and alternative versions, and is in honor of Margaret “Mickey” Vaughan Mairs, the singer/songwriter of our band (Fair Verona.)
Mickey and I had been recording songs since 2008 - when we were about 7 or 8 years old. I still have some of these recordings on my computer. To say that she was a close friend is an understatement. We recorded music together, made films together, had photoshoots - tried almost every creative outlet… together.
The first song that we took seriously was “He’s My World,” which I believe was recorded in 2012. I vividly remember recording this song, and I still have the video of us recording it. Of course, this is the first song that we truly recorded, and I believe Mickey would slap me if I posted it publicly, so I won’t. [To those that have the family and friends CD version of “In Memoriam,” the song and the video is available through the digital download code. Do not share it outside of your own families, thank you.]
We realized we really enjoyed the recording process after recording “He’s My World.” Mickey continued to write lyrics and melodies while I learned more about music production and the backside of music editing. The next song we started recording was “Dream.” This song was originally on our debut “Covers and Originals” album - which was distributed for a short few years. Just like “He’s My World,” “Dream” is very much a love song. However, the latter includes Mickey’s realization of wanting music to be a part of her future. After we recorded those two songs, we decided to work on some covers of more famous songs so we could figure out how to create our own sound. Our first covers of choice were “Two Chord” by Sleeping with Sirens, followed by “Death of a Bachelor” by Panic! At The Disco. “Two Chord” was an easy choice because of its simplicity. We chose “Death of a Bachelor” so we could experiment with infusing our own sound into someone else’s song - which is a great way to figure out your own sound.
The following year, we recorded “Arts and Crafts,” which truly shows Mickey’s lyrical development. No more overly-repeated phrases, and some themes that were carried through future songs. These themes include fireflies, teenage years, and initially subtle drug references. Once we finished this song, we both took about a 3 year break from Fair Verona. In fact, at this time, we didn’t even have a band name. We just enjoyed making music together.
It was now 2016, the year that we recorded one song fully, and a draft of another song. The song that we finished was “You’re Too Far Away Now” - which was the first heartbreak song Mickey wrote. This was also the same year that I was in California for 6 months. I reached out to her to talk about music, and apparently we were both reading Romeo and Juliet in our English classes. We continued the conversation on music, and eventually came to the agreement for our band name - Fair Verona - since our music had similar themes to Romeo and Juliet. Such themes include The Power of Love, The Power of Heartbreak, Family and Obligations, Defying Authority, and finally, Destiny and Fate.
More to the story coming soon
High speed
in a white cadillac
getting gas before the dawn
loose grip on the steering wheel
thinking about the way we used to fall….
we used to fall…
mmmm
lush pink roses in the fireplace
covered up by baby’s breath and ashes
blue and pink in the sky above
cotton candy clouds are our aesthetic
Maybe I’m just jumping in
without testing the water
tell me that I’m in the good old days
before they’re over
oh
‘cause now I’m sailing and I’m
rolling up a cigarette with starlight
hmmm
and I’m still waiting cause you said you would
pull through after midnight
to go fly with me
thrift shop sweaters in the springtime
leaving school so we can go get faded
chasing honeybees, we think we’re sly
First thing in the morning, could have waited
What the fuck am I gonna do
say “no, I don’t think so”
cause now I’m sailing and I’m

In the night there’s fireflies
Didn’t know I was the only one that could see them
Guilty kindness, telling lies
Didn’t know I was the only one that could free them
Macarons and gummy bears
We come to life and then we dance in summer air
So please don’t go, darling now I need you so
Cause alone I wouldn’t live right if I tried
And if you stayed, darling I would never change
I would just sit and fall to pieces in my mind
Oh I’m alive,
guess this is life.
Fucking up my pillow case
In the morning we smoke cigarettes
and vibe out to heavy bass.
Drinking cola through the day,
Know that I would pass out if I let it any other way.
Tea and honey, it’s my fault
I know that you will fuck me over, but I don’t care at all.
So please don’t go, darling now I need you so
Cause alone I wouldn’t live right if I tried
And if you stay, darling I would never change
I would just sit and fall to pieces in my mind
Oh I’m alive,
guess this is life.
I’m sitting by my window
Fueling up on diesel
Talking to some of the shallow thoughts in my head
It’s 2am and rainy
My friends are in the back seat
I’m wondering if they know that they’re acting
brain dead
Maybe I’m just… getting too high
‘cause I know that it’s all in my mind
And there’s a
voice in my head that’s keeping me
up at night
don’t know if I can trust it cause it’s
leading me left and right
and there’s a
voice in my head that’s telling me
don’t close your eyes
they’ll try to cop yours style blow your cover and
fill all your drugs with lies
baby don’t cry
Don’t tell me that you love me
I know you’re fuckin crazy
wait that’s me, I’d drag you down
If it meant I could get high
I know you don’t wanna see me
Like this anymore, well that’s too bad,
cause it’s clear that I’m peachy as pie
‘cause there’s a
voice in my head that’s keeping me
up at night
don’t know if I can trust it cause it’s
giving me black and white
and there’s a
voice in my head that’s telling me
don’t close your eyes
they’ll try to steal your playlist and replace it with the
feeling of wanting to die
baby don’t
cry
Baby don’t cry, oh
Paranoid and disturbed
I don’t deserve
Anything that’s coming to me
But I know if I change
it won’t be the same
But I guess that’s a price I
gotta pay
It’s just a
voice in my head that’s keeping me
up at night
don’t know if I can trust it but it’s
putting up quite the fight
and it’s a
voice in my head that’s telling me
if you close your eyes
you’ll be safe from hatred, in a place where you might
finally get some drive
so baby don’t cry
baby don’t cry
so baby don’t cry
baby don’t cry

She’s walking forward
But not leaving any footprints
on the ground
Her path is yet to come
She’s just clinging onto hope
It will be found
Maybe She’s just searching for a life that won’t be shown
She’s disaster
Walking faster
If it means my life will get up and go
However long that takes
I can see you now
She’s walking
Moving slowly on her own
Breathe
Just Breathe in and out
Count down from 100
Just enjoy life without doubt
Girl
Daydreaming’s not a problem
We’ve always got tomorrow,
you’ve got time
She is young and she is wild
Baby girl, you’re still a child,
You can find the little things in life
Cherry blossoms in the pine tree swaying in her backyard
Wonder if she ever contemplated how things really are, ooh
She speaks beautifully
But never says the words that fill her mind
All she’s focused on is finding ways to help speed up her time
The only time she has
I can see you now
She’s walking
Moving slowly on her own
Breathe
Just Breathe in and out
Count down from a thousand
Just enjoy life without doubt
Girl
Daydreaming’s not a problem
We’ve always got tomorrow,
you’ve got time
She
is young and she is wild
Baby girl, you’re still a child,
You can find the little things in life
The little things in life
I can see you now
She’s walking
Moving slowly on her own
Breathe
Juste breathe in and out
Count down from a hundred
Just enjoy life without doubt
Girl
Daydeaming’s not a problem
We’ve always got tomorrow,

You can find the little things in life

Novocaine
Couldn't numb this pain
Of the fire burning deep inside for you
Butterflies
You're the apple of my eye
The one who keeps me pushing right on through
We're making tissue paper flowers
Hour after hour
Folding every single day away
People wonder how they get here
The colors that we both fear
We'll get out and make them say the things they say
We should be free
Living a life that's full of laughs
But for now we're stuck here doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Oh oh, oh oh, oooh
Tie up shoes
It's what I do
Wear black and blue
I always knew how people saw me
Anxiety
Eyes lined with black
But in reality
The surface is all I wanted them to see
Now I'm making tissue paper flowers
Hour after hour
Folding every single day with you
People wonder how they get here
The colors that we should fear
But we don't
We'll make them do the things they do
We should be free
Living a life that's full of laughs
But for now we're stuck here doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Teenage years
Dried up tears
The time that I spent caring was so long
Fireflies, and
Bloodshot eyes
Staying up at night listening to songs
Carefully we move along
We should be free
Living a life that's full of laughs
But for now we're stuck here doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
carefully we,
carefully, we move along.
So tell me why
I’m sitting in the room
Atop my self destruction
Staring at the looking glass
At four in the morning
With a cigarette
Hanging from my lips
Care Free
But they say
There’s no way to find yourself
Unless you stop your own corruption
______
But we’re gonna try to stay together
‘Till the middle of July
But all I really need is to hear
Please
Baby
Stay a little longer
‘Cause I might die here all alone
And all I ever want is a purpose for my effort
‘Cause it’s so hard to try harder
And I don’t want to go home
Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra
All those idols, yes,
I wonder how they didn’t lose their pride
Catching fame like fireflies,
Seems to make a person die
A little bit inside
Maybe I could be the air that you inhale
Before a moment
Pick me up and breathe me in like nicotine
As you say
Oh, I could quit at any time
When I was young
I was told to listen to the words of my chosen
components
They say
The art of losing may seem not too hard to master, but darling, I don’t think you have the time.
No no no
But all I really need is to hear
Please
Baby
Stay a little longer
‘Cause I might die here all alone
And all I ever want is a purpose for my effort
‘Cause it’s so hard to try harder
And I don’t want to go home
Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra
All those idols, yes,
I wonder how they didn’t lose their pride
Catching fame like fireflies,
Seems to make a person die
A little bit inside
I want to end up like
Josephine Baker
You can find me up in France
I used to listen __________

Caught up in your mind
(If you wanna go, say it now, do it loud)
We're running out of time
(So don't let everything, or anything come out)
Find out how to breathe
(Scream until you feel your lungs come out)
Run away with me
Away from reality
I said, "Don't let go,
Just hold me close"
Ohh woah
Don't let go
Blow me out and breathe me in
I'll be your heroine
Can you walk in a straight line?
Do you hear my voice
Can you feel
My hand across your skin
Make sure your eyes are
Locked on mine now
Look up at me,
Take a deep breath in and
Don't let go
Look me up and down
And hold me close
Don't let go
Blow me out and breath me in
Blow me out and breath me in
I'll be your heroine
(Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale)
Can you get away?

Ohhh, oh
I'll be your heroine
You’re like that, oh, oh
You’re no good
You’re no good for me
You’re like that
Caramel corn that gets stuck in my teeth,
like that cotton candy that I’m not supposed to eat,
The candies I steal that just taste like buttercream.
You’re what I crave
when I eat one special treat
I’ve got a problem,
and it’s one that’s here to stay
So don’t give me novacaine,
‘cause it won’t just go away.
I’ve got a sweet tooth,
I’ve got a sweet tooth
For you
I’ve got a sweet tooth,
I’ve got a sweet tooth
for you
I’ve got a craving
And you’re packed with sugar galore
I know I’m addicted,
but you’re all that I want and more.
You’re not something I can ignore.
You’re no good for me
I’ve got a sweet tooth
I’ve got a sweet tooth
I’ve got a sweet tooth
for you
Everyday I get through,
And knowing when I come home
I'll talk to you.
And all along, you've been by my side.
Yeah you keep me from going to run and hide
If one day everything spun out of control,
but you're stuck with me,
You put up with me.
Whooo
But I still wonder why I'm feeling so alone.
You're too far away now.
All the time, you said I'm beautiful,
And it puts a big, huge smile across my face.
You make me laugh, You say You're beautiful
Boy you make me feel like my problems are feeling fates,
Whoah
But when I don't I see you, there's a big hole in my heart
But you come back to me,
You always come back to me.
But I still wonder why we have to be apart.
You're too far away now.
We'll be with each other 'till the end,
And everyday I get to say that you're my best friend.
And every day I start to feel more alone,
But you're always there, you just never come home.
But sometimes everything spins out of control,
But you're stuck with me,
You're just stuck with me.
And as long as you're here
I feel better on my own.
'Cause you're too far away now.
Yeah, you're too far away now.
You're just too far away now.
You're too far,
You're too far away now.
Oh, woah
Oh, woah woah

The surface is all I wanted them to see
Now I'm making tissue paper flowers
Hour after hour
Folding every single day with you
People wonder how they get here
The colors that we should fear
But we don't
We'll make them do the things they do
We should be free
Living a life that's full of laughs
But for now we're stuck here doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Oh, woah
Oh, woah woah
Oh, woah
Oh, woah woah
Teenage years
Dried up tears
The time that I spent caring was so long
Fireflies,
Bloodshot eyes and
Staying up at night listening to songs
Carefully we move along
We should be free
Living a life that's full of laughs
But for now we're stuck here doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts
Doing arts and crafts, yeah
Oh, woah
Oh, woah woah
Oh, woah
Oh, woah woah
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star
I want you to be with me there, babe
I want people to know who we are
Maybe one day you will see
Every one says that you belong with me
Just maybe, maybe, maybe
But not today
'Cause it's hard to follow your dreams
If you can't keep up with them
You ask me what my dream is
But I tell you now or never again
You're my dream
You're my dream
Oh, you're my dream
So wait up for me
Dream
Ooh, ooh, yeah
Ooh, I see you when I close my eyes at night
I would picture you and me
How can something so wrong
feel so right?
You can tell me
Tell me
Tell me
Yes it is
But it's hard to follow your dreams
If you can't keep up with them
you ask me what my dream is
But I tell you now or never again
You're my dream
You're my dream
Oh, you're my dream
So wait up for me
Dream
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star
I wanna be famous
But it's hard to follow your dreams
If you can't keep up with them
you ask me what my dream is
But I tell you now or never again
You're my dream
You're my dream
Oh, you're my dream
So wait up for me
Well it's hard to follow your dreams
If you can't keep up with them
you ask me what my dream is
Boy, I tell you now or never or never again
You're my dream
You're my dream
Oh, you're my dream
So wait up for me
Dream
Oh, so hard, so hard, so hard
Well it's hard to follow your dreams
Yeah it's hard to follow your dreams
Dream, Dream, Dream
Yeah
Well it's hard to follow your dreams
If you can't keep up with them
you ask me what my dream is
Boy, I tell you now or never again
You're my dream
You're my dream
Oh, you're my dream
So wait up for me,
dream
